Daryl recommended Andrew Osmond's brilliant book, Satoshi Kon: The Illusionist. This will be published on the 1st of September, with a slightly higher RRP of £14.99. Internet chatrooms; video games; kawaii branding; so far, everything that has fallen under Kon Satoshi's satiric eye in Paranoia Agent is hyper-modern, but in "ETC" he turns to something much, much older: the uninformed prattle of gossiping housewives. I liked his films and, at the risk of merely adding to the white noise, I just wanted to bid farewell to Satoshi Kon in my own way; on this blog. I bought The Illusionist to help add to my knowledge and the audio commentraies are great too, though they tend to be more about production and so on than the themes. Osmond will quickly follow the above with an upcoming 96-page profile of famed anime director ( Paprika, Perfect Blue) Satoshi Kon, called "Satoshi Kon: The Illusionist". I highly recommend if you have not seen his movies that you do so. There's a book out (called “Satoshi Kon: The Illusionist”) that analyses his films. Most everyone in the room by now knew about Satoshi Kon, and they were there to pay homage among fellow fans. Studio Ghibli and Satoshi Kon are together an empowering exercise in girl power: strong, independent female protagonists of all ages abound in their anime. I also high recommend the book Satoshi Kon The Illusionist by Andrew Osmond Too many good ones leaving us so early.
